The Invention of Everything Else is an unusual book that keeps you wondering what will happen next. The writer's imagination and my ignorance of Tesla are both responsible for this, but it makes the book very readable. There are alternating chapters about Tesla himself and a fictional chambermaid in his hotel. The author has said that she is using some of the chambermaid's story to explore how life might have been different without Tesla. She says that she did not make up anything about Tesla. While all the details of his life given in the book are true, she must have developed the emotions and sensations she describes. Because the author knew nothing about Tesla, she is able to write a semi-fictionalized book that is good at conveying her wonder and surprise in discovering his story to other people in the same boat.
